WWF-UK Living Planet Centre and Headquarters Opens

WWF-UK has today opened its new Living Planet Centre and Headquarters in Woking, with sustainable landscape design provided by UK landscape architects, Grant Associates. The landscape design approach for the 0.9-hectare site reflects a shared aspiration to develop a landscape and building that is integrated and responsive to the site whilst rooted in simple ecological design thinking.

West Point Foundry Preserve Park Opens to the Public

Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects announces the opening of its West Point Foundry Preserve project in the Village of Cold Spring, New York. Located on a dramatic 87-acre, forested site along the Hudson River, the $3.6M sustainable park interprets the locale’s historic ruins while respecting and revealing its industrial and ecological history. Scenic Hudson, the largest environmental group focused on protecting and restoring the Hudson Valley, owns the preserve and commissioned Mathews Nielsen for the project, which was supported in part by a Preserve America grant.

Blackpool remains the UK’s leading seaside resort but visitor numbers have almost halved over the past twenty years and regeneration of the seafront and town has become essential. A major investment in coastal defence infrastructure has provided the catalyst for regeneration with the creation of a 3 kilometre long series of headlands and connecting promenades providing the space for the ‘People’s Playground’ as well as essential protection against rising sea levels and storm flooding.

Penn State students help rebuild stormwater systems in Philadelphia

Wilson Lee, a junior in the landscape architecture program, wiped the sweat and dirt from his brow under a hot October sun. Along a busy street in the heart of central Philadelphia, Lee joined a group of other Penn State students, staff and community volunteers to revamp two green infrastructure sites in the city he calls home. “I’ve been around central Philly a lot and have seen places similar to this throughout the city,” Wilson said. “It’s nice to come in and rehabilitate my community with projects and rain gardens like this. Everyone who has walked by has been appreciative of what we’re doing.”
