OKRA is an international and interdisciplinary team in the field of landscape architecture, working from the Netherlands. For more than 30 years, the practice has designed and realised resilient landscapes, healthy cities and innovative water strategies across Europe and beyond. Through a combination of research, creativity and craftsmanship, OKRA develops landscape-based solutions that respond to contemporary challenges including climate adaptation, biodiversity loss, urbanisation and social inclusion.

OKRA envisions the world of tomorrow as a place with positive impact on people and nature. Central to this vision is an open design approach that draws inspiration and knowledge beyond given boundaries. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous investment in research, the practice addresses pressing challenges such as climate resilience, biodiversity loss and social inclusiveness. Rather than treating these issues separately, OKRA seeks to create meaningful places where ecological systems, cultural identity and everyday life strengthen one another.

Marina Park transforms Cork’s former industrial waterfront into a resilient urban landscape where nature, recreation and water come together.

Three themes underpin the practice’s work.

Living with Water explores nature-based solutions that integrate water management, ecology and spatial quality. Drawing on the Dutch tradition of working with water, OKRA develops adaptive strategies for river landscapes, coastal environments, urban districts and public spaces.

Healthy Cities as Natural Habitats focuses on creating cities where people and nature thrive together. Through the design of public spaces, mobility networks, parks and urban districts, the practice seeks to support biodiversity, encourage social interaction and improve everyday wellbeing.

Rediscovering Landscapes examines the historical, cultural and ecological layers that shape a place. By revealing and reinterpreting these qualities, OKRA creates landscapes that are rooted in local identity while responding to contemporary needs and future ambitions.

Across its international portfolio, OKRA continues to demonstrate how landscape architecture can create lasting value for both people and nature. Their integrated approach enables the practice to translate complex challenges into clear and inspiring solutions, from strategic visions and regional frameworks to detailed public space and landscape projects.

Whether reconnecting cities with water, transforming infrastructure into public landscape or guiding the sustainable growth of new communities, the practice is committed to designing meaningful places that endure over time.
