Lufthansa Aviation Center | Frankfurt Am Main Germany | WKM Landschaftsarchitekten

In-between the federal motorway A3 and the Frankfurt Airport (Fraport), the new administration building of the Deutsche Lufthansa AG is located. A transparent glass façade protects the inside against emission. The building shape, which appears like a two-sided comb, creates an interval of office areas and atriums, so that every wing of the building is framed by two green atriums.

In these nine gardens of intensive planting, typical landscape-scenes of all five continents were created. The vegetation of the theme gardens extends from a ‘California Beach’ up to a traditional ‘Japanese Temple Garden’.

The variety of these atriums symbolizes the worldwide linking of the Lufthansa AG. The plants were chosen according to their original climate they use to live in and then divided into plant communities of one climate zone. In this way, each garden gets an individual character and simultaneously the atriums have the function of noise protection and emission control.
Each green area consists of one or two types of trees and the ground covering plants are also restricted to only few species.

The Lufthansa Aviation Center combines the elegance of the aircraft construction with the needs of a modern, ecological and economical office building that creates comfortable places of work as well as stunning theme gardens right in the middle of the biggest crossroads of Central Europe.
