LDA Design is an independent consultancy of landscape architects, planners, and urban designers with a single mission: to make great places and shape the world around us for the better.

The company’s origins lie in landscape architecture. Landscape, with its ability to connect people and place, is the principal tool by which they achieve their purpose. The original meaning of the word landscape is to create a place where people belong. Defined like this, landscape reveals how places can and should be planned and designed, and how lives can be improved. Whether the project is a park, a port, high-speed rail, or a new urban district, they focus on the needs and hopes of the people affected, balancing these needs with those of nature. LDA Design believe co-designing with communities leads to better connected, healthier and more sociable places.

LDA Design has received more than 100 awards for contemporary and historic parkland design, urban renewal, and historic town centre improvements. Their 160-strong team operates from eight studios across the UK. They draw on six key services – landscape architecture, masterplanning, planning, EIA, environmental planning, and biodiversity – to unlock the potential of place. A ‘one business’ culture fosters creativity, maximising the strength, agility, and resilience of the business.

LDA Design led the masterplanning and detailed design of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London, one of Europe’s most successful new parklands. They have designed and are delivering some of the UK’s most challenging city centre public realm projects, including London’s Battersea Power Station and Strand-Aldwych, and George Street in Edinburgh.

They specialise in healthy street design and are also joint winners of the recent Home for 2030 competition. International projects include The Eden Project’s first outpost in Qingdao, China; a landscape-led masterplan for Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad, Russia; and a competition-winning rethink of Gorky Central Park in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.
