The Tree Houses Project, designed by The Portico Group, represents a plan to provide children and their families with unique experiences at the Evans Children’s Adventure Garden within Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, AR. The conceptual organizational approach for new encounter stations will encourage kids to “Look, Find and Discover that the Woods are Alive!”

Call for Submissions | Ground Up Issue 3

GROUND UP is an annual publication of the Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental Planning at the University of California at Berkeley. In this issue, we invite you to explore what it means to be Here.

We are soliciting printable media up to 2500 words with accompanying graphics. Shorter entries of 500-1000 words are highly encouraged, as are design proposals, either speculative or built. We welcome video submissions for the journal’s online component, and encourage novel forms of written and artistic expression.

Closes: JANUARY 5th, 2014. Notification of selected entries will be made in February.

VIDEO | Snøhetta: Memories of architectural landscapes

Snøhetta: Memories of architectural landscapes. A 30 minute video with Norwegian architect Kjetil T. Thorsen talking about Snøhetta’s work. The first section – ‘landscapes’ (5 Minutes), gives an insight on how Kjetil T. Thorsen and Snøhetta look at landscape. ”Landscapes are a massive force”, says Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, co-founder and director of Snøhetta: “And they are masterpieces, which architects can be inspired by.”

Six Finalists selected for Zaryadye Park Design Competition


Last week we told you that 87 of the 90 submissions were eligible for entry into Zaryadye Park Design Competition. Yesterday, the jury held an eight-hour long meeting the Jury and selected six teams out of 90 applications. The main criteria was composition of a consortium, consisting of representatives of various specialties, and consortium portfolio. On 27 September 2013 the six participants will provide landscape and architectural concepts for Zaryadye park. After the technical expertise these projects will be presented to the Jury early November 2013. And later on the Winner will be involved in implementation of the project.

The six finalists include teams lead by:
