Lost World

The landscape architects from SLA worked with the artist Morten Stræde to develop a landscaping- and art strategy for the gravel pits south of Roskilde showground. The raw material and festival site in Roskilde each year houses one of Europe’s biggest music festivals, The Roskilde Festival, and every year 100,000 people from all over the world guest the festival. For the rest of the year landscape, not yet excavated, work as a recreational landscape for the citizens of Roskilde. Every year, however, gravel pits eat their way through the landscape, leaving less green fields for guests and citizens to enjoy – a source of much controversy.

KERB 22 | Call for Submissions

Kerb Journal is in its 22nd year of publication and we are currently seeking submissions for the latest edition exploring the theme of ‘Remoteness’. Submissions close on Sunday 4th of May, 12 midnight (Australia EST) for the launch of journal in August (2014).

Kerb is an annual Landscape Architecture publication presenting works from cross-disciplinary fields produced by the RMIT University School of Architecture and Design in Melbourne, Australia. Kerb is a progressive design journal focused on contemporary Landscape Architecture issues from an international and national perspective.

Back in 2009, I posted a short news summary about plans to create a plaza to remember the falling of the Berlin Wall at the border crossing at Bornholmer Strasse. Recently, I was wondering if the plaza was completed and contacted sinai, the firm who were commissioned to develop the design and found out that indeed the plaza to commemorate such a historic moment in time had been completed.

The border checkpoint at Bornholmer Straße is known as the place where the Berliner Wall fell. Here next to the Bösebrücke a space of remembrance for November 9 was formed – a space for remembering a single day.

The concept for the design was to dedicate less space to villa and more space to landscaping. This project is located in the new development which called Sadra in Shiraz, Iran.

STUDENT PROJECT | Genoa Green Infrastructure | Alessandro Vino

The project developed a design idea for an elevated bike infrastructure in Genoa’s east Valley, known as Val Bisagno. The valley has been named after the seasonal stream that rushes through it, nowadays the area is one of Genoa’s busiest urban periphery, with 130.000 inhabitants and two major issues:
1) The recurring floods of the seasonal stream.
2) The lack of sustainable mobility plans.
