The Zaton tourist settlement is a coastal and marine area of 100 hectares and great individuality. The whole area of tourist village is exceptional for its landscape characteristics. Sandy bay, overall mildness of the landscape, the forests and plenty of green represent the highest landscape value. Its master plan calls for a pedestrian pathway that in one direction leads toward the old royal town of Nin and in the other direction towards the sea.

Three parks were once located at the center of the axis. Their function was primarily a decorative one. The new project task calls for the reconstruction of these areas in a way to provide passability and to attract pedestrians to these areas. The starting point for the reconstruction was the existing forest of Aleppo pine and Umbrella pine (white fir and Italian stone pine) which has been respected to the utmost. The design of the paths and walls has followed the structure of the existing rocks and pine rhizosphere. Thus, a space of dynamic levels has emerged – countersunk levels have become areas for paths and park interiors.

Parks are part of the pedestrian backbone, but at the same time, they are a place to visit, rest, play, and for small events.

The foundations of the park base are made of stabilized crushed stone, which is the traditional material for paths in Mediterranean parks.

The shape and placement of the garden furniture and lamps were inspired by home furniture – they form numerous green lounges, which create a special intimacy.

The green areas are a bit higher in relation to the visiting areas. The old pine trees dictated the formation of the new greenery. With their curvaceous growth, they give a typical Mediterranean atmosphere and they impart a pronounced ornamental feeling to the area. The coloristic elements of the new greenery are reduced to the shaded colors typical of the Mediterranean: dominated by silver tones of perennials of various textures from which in some places coloristic accents (for example, large groups of lavender) emerge.

Biological and shape criteria has been respected in the selection of plants and vegetation. Native vegetation that is indigenous to this climate and whose appearance and composition meet professional requirements was planted. In order to familiarize guests with the nature, we launched manifestation Nature We Grow With. In that project, the resort is divided into zones and every zone has it’s own story.
