West 8 urban design & landscape architecture will receive the Bijhouwer Award for its exceptional and high quality design and implementation work in the areas of Garden Design and Landscape Architecture. The jury’s report stated that West 8 has been of significant importance to the development of the Dutch Landscape Architectural profession, since the practice was founded in 1987 by Adriaan Geuze.
West 8 has been awarded the prize for its unique contribution to developing the profession of Landscape Architecture. The Jury also recognized the important role West 8 has played in bringing the subject of Landscape Architecture to a comparable level to that of Architecture and Urban Design, within the public eye. In addition the award acknowledges the activities West 8 have contributed to, in the areas of urban development as well as West 8’s understanding, appreciation and protection of the Dutch landscape.
The prize will be awarded on the 7th of November by Eric Luiten, chairman of the foundation of NHBOS. Preceding the presentation of the Bijhouwer Prize a lecture will be given by Andre Dekker, artist of Observatorium Rotterdam.
The Bijhouwer Award is an initiative of the foundation of NHBOS, whose primary objective is to support Dutch Garden Designers and Landscape Architects. The prize, that comes with an award of € 25.000,-, is granted every two years. The primary criteria for spending the prize money is that it has to be spent on projects, activities or events which have a close relation to the work for which the prize was awarded.
