The Tempelhofer Feld design competition was announced recently on the European Union tenders website by the State of Berlin, represented by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing. The competition is an open, two-phase, urban and open space planning ideas competition for Tempelhofer Feld with the competition language will be in German. Communication with participants takes place exclusively via the online.
Aim of the competition
The open ideas competition serves to develop creative and innovative designs that should reflect a range of sustainable uses with or without careful peripheral development. An important basis for the competition announcement are the results from the dialogue workshops, two of which have already taken place. The aim is to obtain different designs that exploit the potential of Tempelhofer Feld and at the same time do justice to the diverse interests of the Berlin population
The two-phase competition is aimed at architectural and urban and open space planning offices that are to develop conceptual designs for the future of Tempelhofer Feld. The number of offices will be reduced to about 20 for the second competition phase.
Eligibility
It is hard to discern who is eligible, but assume from what we can read of the translation of the german announcement that the competition is limited to those who reside in the European Union who are registered as you are required to meet various EU directives. Prizes
A total of €317,500.00 (net) is available for the prize group and expense allowances for the participants in the second phase. The following distribution of the competition sum is planned: Expense allowances (up to 20 works in the 2nd phase) €150,000.00 Prize group (approx. 5 equally ranked prizes of €27,500.00 each) €137,500.00 Recognitions (max. 3 recognitions of €10,000.00 each) €30,000.00 | The jury can unanimously decide on a different distribution or form other prize groups.
Since this is an ideas competition, there is no intention to implement the submitted concepts. There are also no plans to further process submitted or selected/award-winning concepts. Receiving an award does not entail a promise of a contract.
