The New South Wales government recently released the Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2050 which proposes to convert Sydney Olympic Park into a true mixed-use precinct, with almost 1.2 million square metres of space for commercial, retail, events, tourism, sports, arts and industry. This would be buoyed with hotel and student accommodation, education and health and civic space.
Sydney Olympic Park is transforming into a thriving suburb strategically located in the centre of Greater Sydney. It is a suburb that benefits from diverse land uses, proximity to Sydney and Parramatta central business districts, and is of national significance, all of which have played an important role in its evolution since hosting the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As the 640-hectare site continues to evolve into vibrant neighbourhoods, it will reconnect with its Wangal roots and extensive natural assets to provide a meaningful connection to Country

The Master Plan would maintain Sydney Olympic Park’s history as the State’s pre-eminent sports and events precinct while transforming the area into a thriving urban community.
With a focus on designing better places and creating better communities, social infrastructure would include a new cultural centre, a new library and community hub, new community sports and leisure centres, 2 new schools, 7 new public spaces, 4 new sports fields and over 10 playgrounds. For the first time, the master plan also includes the 430 hectares of surrounding Millenium Parklands.
To create more well-located homes close to transport, amenity and jobs, the precinct would take advantage of the NSW Government’s investment in improved public transport infrastructure with the Sydney Metro West and Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2.
The master plan was developed in partnership with a Design Review Panel, which supported a series of resilient and well-connected residential neighbourhoods, precincts and parklands.
The panel endorsed the master plan’s focus on amenity, accessibility, sustainability, and pedestrian and cycle connections.
It also recommended diverse apartment types and sizes to accommodate a community that will include families, downsizers, and essential workers.
The public consultation opened on Monday, 28 October 2024, and is due to close on Monday, 25 November 2024. The Master Plan’s finalisation is expected in mid-2025.
