LDA Design has recruited Sustainability Manager, Sian Berkley, to ensure climate and sustainable development are front and centre as it champions climate-conscious design and advocates for a net-zero carbon future.
Sian is experienced in aligning business approach with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. In her previous role, she developed a sustainability strategy and was given responsibility for its delivery, launching product lifecycle assessments, Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon calculations with the aim to reduce CO2 outputs by five per cent per annum, and supply chain audits. She also managed environmental standards across all three companies within the group.
Every business needs to have a net-zero roadmap. The last six years have been the hottest on record, and there is clearly no time to lose in addressing climate breakdown and catastrophic nature loss. UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, opened Cop27 with the stark warning that the planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible: “We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.”
In welcoming Sian, LDA Design’s Managing Director, Mike Foster, emphasised the importance of the work she will be undertaking: “Sustainability is a central concern not just for us but for all of our clients. It’s vital that we provide the best advice, driving greater collaboration so that rigorous, co-ordinated processes can be put in place and so that there is a greater understanding of the issues and the solutions.
“Sustainability needs to lie at the heart of all planning and design decisions. This requires a seismic systemic shift. Sian will help us to establish the framework that means LDA Design is well placed to support this shift. We want every decision we make to be a step on the way to net zero.”
