Shortlist announced for the Runway at YZD Design Competition

The design competition organisers have reached the end of their Request for Expressions of Interest stage and have shortlisted five teams to take part in a closed RFP:

  • CCxA
  • Field Operations
  • Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA) Inc.
  • Sasaki
  • SLA

This site was formerly home to the historic Downsview Airport, now-closed airport located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Runway at YZD Design Competition will challenge cross-disciplinary design teams to transform the historic 2-kilometer (1.3-mile) airstrip into a central feature of the future mixed-use communities planned for the expansive 370-acre site.

The winning team will be appointed in mid-2025, marking the next step in helping transform an historic airstrip into a vibrant space that reflects the power of thoughtful placemaking.

The RFEOI closed on November 22 and five shortlisted teams have been invited to take part in a closed RFP. Only one team will be awarded the final contract, and all short-listed teams will be acknowledged for their participation.
