1-9 Regent Street is a recently completed new student housing development in the highly urbanised Sydney suburb of Chippendale. ASPECT Studios‘ brief included the design, development application and documentation of the courtyard, which is intended as a place for students to relax, gather and study.
A covered timber deck accommodates barbecue facilities and large communal tables, inviting residents to socialise; random stone slabs extend beyond the timber deck providing an informal spill out zone for large events; concrete and timber benches scattered throughout the courtyard allow for seating opportunities within the peaceful surrounds of this green urban oasis. The use of deciduous trees, shade tolerant understorey planting and flowering groundcovers recreate a lush forest floor.
