“Re-connect” is a project that envisions a resilient and sustainable future for public realm in the city center of Lamia. The main strategies of intervention aim to re-connect and recover the relationship of the public space with the history of the city, the landscape, the urban and social life.
The proposal treats the three main squares of the city (Eleftherias Square, Laou Square and Diakou Square) as a single entity, a unified network of social life and pedestrian movement. The landscape design and mobility solutions are based on an integraded approach to upgrade the city center, redefining the identity of place and focusing on strengthening connectivity, pedestrian movement, creating at the same time resilient and adaptive to climate change environments.

In this context:
- Eleftherias Square is evolving into a “landscape of life”, a central point where people coexist with the urban and natural landscape,
- Laou square reflects everyday life, highlighting the large existing trees and
- Diakou Square is characterized by its monumentality.
Sustainable approaches to landscape design where key in the proposal, with wide use of permeable materials, water features, extended softscape surfaces and new vegetation to enhance the biodiversity of the three squares.

The urban history is highlights through the lighting strategy and ICT solutions. Shared space approach was used in the mobility strategy with the integration of bicycle routes. Moreover, a general reorganization of the square uses and functions took place aiming in creating a new experience for locals and visitors.
