The New South Wales Government has just revealed plans for a $250 million dollar revamp of the iconic Sydney Fish Market in Blackwattle Bay. The redevelopment is part of UrbanGrowth NSW’s major transformation of the Bays Precinct which includes Rozelle Bay, Glebe Island and White Bay Power Station.
ASPECT Studios, BVN, Wallner Weiss and GXN join the international design consortium led by Danish architects 3XN. The team will work closely with UrbanGrowth NSW, Sydney Fish Market, Government Architect’s Office, City of Sydney and key stakeholders “to create a world-class food and dining destination on the inner harbour that will be dynamic, sustainable, and sympathetic to the local area” (Barry Mann, UrbanGrowth NSW).
Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of New South Wales said “The Fish Market is one of Sydney’s most popular attractions and it’s fantastic to see the incredible international interest in this exciting project.”
New public domain upgrades will include the foreshore promenade, links to the adjoining Wentworth Park and the continuous public realm around Blackwattle Bay.
“The brief is to rejuvenate Sydney Fish Market and create a world class food and dining destination on the inner harbour that will be dynamic, sustainable, and sympathetic to the local area,” said UrbanGrowth NSW Head of Projects Portfolio, Barry Mann. “3XN Architects has extensive experience designing award-winning and adaptable waterfront buildings around the world, from Scandinavia, to North America, and now Sydney,” Mr Mann said.
UrbanGrowth NSW expects to have a draft design released for public comment later in the year and aims to commence construction in late 2018.
