OPEN CALL | 2025 World Landscape Architecture Shanghai International Forum

The event will continue with a change to the program including a celebration of Kongjian Yu’s work.

The 2025 WLA Shanghai International Forum will be hosted by the School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This marks the first time that World Landscape Architecture (WLA) is partnering with a university to organise an international in-person forum.

Centered on the theme “Future Fusion”, the forum is dedicated to promoting deep integration and cross-disciplinary innovation in forward-looking theories and practices of habitat design. The event will also feature the WLA Selected Projects Exhibition and WLA Student Awards Ceremony.

Open Call

WLA calls for two speakers and two students to participate in the 2025 WLA Shanghai International Forum.

Professionals and Academics

We are seeking one professional speaker for the Pioneering Design Forum and one academic the Academic Design Forum.

The Pioneering Design Forum will discuss pioneering/new trends in design and how they aim to create a better future. Presentations should discuss the topic in general information and go beyond their own project design work.

The Academic Design Forum will discuss current teaching curriculum, including design theory and design studios that seek to advance the study of landscape architecture and the profession for the future. Speakers should discuss the topic beyond their own studios and teaching to provide broad ideas and discussion.

Students

We are also seeking two students (including recent graduates) to participate in the Future Newcomer Workshop to exchange views and discuss the declaration on “Climate Change and the Responsibility of Future Designers”

Submissions

All Submissions should include a 250-500 word essay on why they wish to participate in the Pioneering Design Forum, the Academic Design Forum and the Future Newcomer Workshop.

Professionals and Academics should include a short one-page CV/Resume and 2-3 pages of images of their design work that relates to the applicable forum (Pioneering Design Forum, Academic Design Forum).

Students (and recent graduates) should provide some images of their current work in A4 Landscape Format. Submissions should be less than 10Mb PDF.

We encourage all international (not in Mainland China) professionals and academics to submit to the open call for speakers and students.

A small stipend is available to selected Professional, Academics and Students along with a complimentary ticket to the events.

All submissions (Professional, Academic and Student) should be emailed in A4 format as a pdf file to submit@worldlandscapearchitect.com
