Landscape Forms, in partnership with the Landscape Architecture Foundation, recently announced the winners of their annual scholarships for distinguished undergraduate landscape architecture students: The Landscape Forms Scholarship in Memory of Peter Lindsay Schaudt and the Landscape Forms Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarship.
The Landscape Forms Scholarship in Memory of Peter Lindsay Schaudt celebrates the 30-year career of a leader and visionary in landscape architecture. Peter was one of the founding principals of the award-winning firm, Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architecture in Chicago, Illinois and a dedicated member of the Board of Directors for Landscape Forms.
Landscape Forms Shane Coen Scholarship for Diversity in Design was established in memory of celebrated landscape architect, visionary designer, and Landscape Forms Board Member Shane Coen, FASLA. This scholarship honours Shane’s lifelong commitment to connecting people with nature and one another through thoughtful, inclusive and diverse design. Shane believed that the landscape has the power to heal, inspire and bring communities together—a philosophy that continues to shape the profession he helped define.
Zuri Askew, recipient of the 2026 Landscape Forms Shane Coen Scholarship for Diversity in Design, is an Honors Landscape Architecture student at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she is also minoring in Construction Management. Raised in Norfolk’s Coronado neighborhood, Zuri was drawn to landscape architecture by the absence of accessible, welcoming green spaces in communities like her own. Today, she brings that lived experience into her studies, her leadership as President of her student ASLA chapter, and her ongoing Reclaiming Coronado project, an effort to transform the former Coronado School site into a place for gathering, renewal and connection to nature.
“Growing up, I didn’t really have the language for green space or landscape architecture, but I knew what it felt like not to have those kinds of places available in my community,” says Askew. “That experience inspired me to pursue landscape architecture not only as a career, but for the impact it can have. I want to help bring healthier, more joyful and more meaningful outdoor spaces to communities like mine.”

Joshua Schneider, recipient of the 2026 Landscape Forms Scholarship in Memory of Peter Lindsay Schaudt, FASLA, is a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture candidate at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. With a background in creative and performing arts, Joshua brings a storyteller’s perspective to landscape architecture, exploring how design can give voice to people, communities, histories and the natural systems that shape a place.
“I came to landscape architecture through storytelling,” says Schneider. “My background is in theater, photography and dance, and I’ve found there is so much overlap in how we give voice to people and communities. Landscape architecture became another medium for that work, one that connects people to the land, helps them slow down and offers a new perspective on how we live. I want my work to amplify the stories, histories, cultures and natural processes of the landscapes I’m helping transform.”

Through scholarships, Landscape Forms and LAF aim to increase the influence of the next generation of landscape architects by fostering a more equitable, inclusive, creative and sustainable future for the profession.
