Lake Palace | Hangzhou, China

Lake Palace is located in the heart of Hangzhou and adjacent to Peach Blossom Lake Park and benefits from exceptional natural landscape and excellent urban connectivity. Rooted in the design philosophy of traditional courtyard gardens, the project reinterprets classical Jiangnan aesthetics through a contemporary lens, creating a tranquil and livable urban oasis.

The spatial layout draws inspiration from Suzhou-style classical gardens. Longitudinal spaces are defined by low walls and hanging flower gates, forming three key landscape zones—the entrance forecourt, central courtyard, and a sunken garden—stitched together along the main circulation path. The spatial rhythm shifts gently as one moves through the site, emphasizing a harmonious blend of interior and exterior, function and ceremony.

Water serves as the central element of the landscape framework, while the garden forms the atmospheric backdrop. By utilizing natural topography, a cascading sequence of sunken spaces creates an immersive, multi-dimensional experience. As visitors walk through the garden, the scene unfolds gradually, culminating in a 360° boundless view at the heart of the site. The dynamic interplay of water, vegetation, rock formations, and subtle animal life infuses the courtyard with vitality, bridging classical garden aesthetics with modern ecological values.

Ultimately, Lake Palace fuses traditional craftsmanship with contemporary living, crafting a poetic space where nature, culture, and serenity coexist in the midst of the modern city.
