Grand Mercure Khao Lak Bangsak | Phang-Nga, Thailand | Landscape Tectonix Limited

Located at the renowned hideaway destination of Khaolak, Phang-Nga, Grand Mercure Khaolak Bangsak open its door to all guests in November 2021.

Appointed as the landscape design consultant in 2018, Landscape Tectonix Limited in collaboration with Habita (Architectural design consultant), MakeAscene (Interior design consultant) and Asia Eco Pond (Bio-Pond consultant) worked as a team to come up with the collaborative design starting from design concept, master planning up to its completion in 2020.

The site is a long linear land plot with the narrow exposure to the beachfront, therefore the design concept definitely brings in the design solutions to maximize the physical planning of the site, to illustrate a sense of place with strong selling point of the project and to enhance the project’s value.

Inspired by the local village’s settlement along the canal, the hotel beautifully features a peaceful tropical retreat set across the pristine white sandy beach of Andaman Sea and the lush greenery of tropical gardens created by the project’s key feature: a Canal.

A long linear Bio-Canal, designed as a landscape feature to create the internal ambience and to compliment with architecture, is strategically positioned in center of the site connecting hotel’s lobby and garden pool, all day dining and spa to the beachside facilities including main pool and beach. The environmental-friendly canal is chemical-free water course creating the pleasant ambience for the guestrooms.

Nestled by the lush greenery of multi-layering landscape treatments, the landscape design specifically had three layers of planting design; Big trees to create the harmony with Architecture and outdoor spaces, small trees to create the visual impact at eye level, Shrub and Groundcover to create the human senses and intimacy.

The hotel guestrooms, designed as two-storey traditional house with different orientations and physical appearances, overlook to its own specific view to pool, canal and garden with private pier creating the pleasant tropical ambience, the prime privacy for the guest rooms with private piers and the incomparable landscape settings.

The entrance, designed as a small courtyard with intimacy, features the lotus pond with signature trees and the raised-up planters creating the strong landscape axis with the architecture. The materials are the natural materials with the accent of timber and the slight contrast of its textures illustrating the interesting visual impact in the compacted outdoor space.

There are two public pools within the hotel: Garden pool and Main pool. The garden pool is located next to the lobby and surrounded by the lush tropical garden setting where guests can swim and rest leisurely in the quiet zone. The main pool is next to the beach, kid club and specialty restaurant overlooking to the pristine Andaman Sea.
