Furong Island Floating Park is located east of the Century City International Convention and Exhibition Center in Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone, south of the Wuchazi Bridge, adjacent to the planned world-class Jiaozi Park Business Circle. The park comprises two parts: the island and the shore. The tear-shaped island floats in the heart of the Jinjiang River, covering approximately 25,000 square meters. The shore area consists of riparian green belts along Xiongjiaqiao Road and Fubin Middle Road, plus a triangular zone formed at their intersection, totaling about 25,900 square meters. The combined site area is approximately 50,900 square meters.

Two 6-meter-wide landscape bridges connect the island to the shore upstream and downstream. Besides pedestrian access, these bridges accommodate fire trucks and service vehicles. On the island, the bridges form a horseshoe-shaped loop, while the downstream bridge extends over the road, with future connections planned to the “Furong Square” commercial block, enhancing park accessibility.
The park features 4 buildings (3 on the island, 1 onshore) with a total floor area of 1,950 square meters. These will serve as an art exhibition center and support facilities, with a maximum building height of 9.35 meters.

Strategic Location & Context
Adjacent to the historic Zhonghe Old Town, the park acts as Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone’s eastern “spearhead” across the Jinjiang River. Years of development have formed a vibrant C-shaped riverfront belt, framed by the riverside greenway system, Century City Convention Center, Jiangtan Park, the iconic Wuchazi Bridge, and Hudie Bridge. This project completes the final link in this Emerging Art Corridor.

Design Philosophy
“Integrated Island-City, Unified Island-Shore” Guided by this vision, the park organically connects the Jinjiang Ecological Corridor, Tianfu Greenway System, and surrounding urban networks. It functions as a vital organ within Chengdu’s “Park City” fabric while becoming a luminous landmark on Jinjiang Century Bay.

Ecological Heritage
Originally a natural river island formed by a Jinjiang tributary, the site was previously used for Hudie Bridge’s piers. Dominated by weeds and native trees, it hosted habitats for egrets and gray cranes.
Key Design Strategies
Respecting Ecology, Blending with Environment: Preserved existing trees crucial for bird habitats (egrets, gray cranes). Enhanced biodiversity with 100+ species of trees and shrubs. Reshaped eastern revetments for waterfront promenades, creating layered spaces and rest areas. Implemented Chengdu’s first high-modulus polypropylene continuous-tank rainwater harvesting system, fulfilling sponge city principles (infiltration, retention, storage, purification, reuse, drainage) for landscape irrigation, maximizing ecological, economic, and social value.

Constructing Unified Landscape, Achieving Aesthetic Heights: Extended the riverfront art theme, creating integrated art spaces for the Jinjiang Art Corridor. Landscape-architecture integration takes inspiration from Jinjiang’s waves. Shoreline elements feature flowing artistic GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) retaining walls and curved surfaces, forming dynamic 3D spaces. A large viewing platform cantilevers towards the river, framing views of Wuchazi Bridge and creating a visual dialogue between island, shore, and bridge.

Integrating Island-Shore, Blending City-Park: Transforms into a dynamic waterfront public space and urban stage. Strengthened island-shore connections, optimized zoning, infused art, and introduced programming to convert visitor traffic into sustained engagement. Professional operators host regular community events, boosting popularity and achieving self-sustaining operations. This sustains the natural habitat while creating a positive feedback loop.
Reviving Memory, Reshaping Scenes: Revives the historic Zhonghe Wharf located here. Built two docks: the onshore “New Zhonghe Wharf” and island-based “Furong Island Dock”. Incorporated into Chengdu Port’s masterplan as a stop for the “Night Tour on Jinjiang” project, reigniting the area’s aquatic vitality and honoring residents’ emotional connection to the site.
