Located in Boston’s historic Charlestown district, Constitution Wharf is comprised of three waterfront office buildings totaling 180,700 sq ft (16,787 m2). Panoramic views of Boston’s marina and city skyline can be enjoyed from the 8-acre property. Situated along the Boston Harborwalk, Constitution Wharf is adjacent to the USS Constitution Museum and a variety of restaurants, hotels, and public transportation stops.
Massachusetts headquartered National Development was the developer during the repositioning which brought comprehensive upgrades to multiple facets of the property. IBI Group, a Canadian-based firm that practices out of 60 offices globally, Jamestown Properties, the current property owner, and others were involved in the landscape improvements. Forms+Surfaces worked with these various parties to provide litter receptacles, a variety of tables and chairs, illuminated and non-illuminated bollards and pedestrian lighting. The selected site furniture and lighting maintained a consistent aesthetic while delivering on key requirements: corrosion resistance, durability, and construction robust enough to weather the extreme conditions of the Boston Harbor.
According to Drew Cooper, Forms+Surfaces Regional Vice President, Northern US & Eastern Canada, “This is the type of project that really exemplifies the strength of the F+S portfolio. Because many of our materials and products are designed to coordinate with each other, we were able to meet many different needs – from illuminated and non-illuminated bollards to chairs and tables to litter and recycling receptacles. And, because our products are built to last, they were an ideal solution for this busy waterfront location.”
The resulting outdoor spaces have a modern design and feel, with materials—stainless steel, white powdercoat and hardwoods—reflecting the thematic characteristics of the masts and boat decks at the nearby marina.
