Developed as part of an overall transformation of Boston Children’s Hospital’s main campus in the Longwood Medical District, MYKD worked collaboratively with the client and design team to develop a Green Masterplan that integrated gardens throughout the existing and new building. This new vision allows for the design to be tailored to individual needs and for the gardens to have more effective adjacencies with patients, caregivers and families now and in the future.
This new plan was in response to the growing need for acute and complex care in Massachusetts and Internationally. A new vertical hospital is integrated into this plan which introduces the latest state-of-the-art technology in daily care while allowing for BCH to admit more patients into the hospital. Part of the masterplan integrates a pedestrian walkway that links the Patient/Family Garage to the Main building, providing more effective and enhanced inpatient and outpatient experiences. The first of the gardens – the Rooftop Healing Garden – has been built and is being enjoyed by patients and their families.
