The city of Shanghai now has its very own lowline sports park, reshaped from the wasted space under the Middle Ring Road, adjacent to ‘City Beauty’ – the Suzhou River. Despite of the downtown location, the site was depressing, desolate and unpleasant.
The heavy shadow, complicated traffic and fragmented spaces were surrounded by the freeway and other infrastructure.
The project aims to create an attractive open space with the following design strategies, together forming the core spirit of Shanghai, a multicultural community.
a. Bold color blocks and graffiti art of exotic animals representing the city spirits of Shanghai;
b. A variety of sports supported by a partnership between public-participation-cooperation ;
