On Friday July 5, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Máxima  opened Maxima Park in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht, Netherlands. The park is a 300-hectare green area in the middle of the Leidsche Rijn designed by West 8.

West 8 wins design competition for Veddel North in Hamburg


Revitalization of an urban community and surrounding dike park on the south banks of the Elbe River in Hamburg, Germany. West 8′s winning design addresses rising sea levels and climate change, bringing a human scale to an area dominated by automobile traffic.

Six Finalists selected for Zaryadye Park Design Competition


Last week we told you that 87 of the 90 submissions were eligible for entry into Zaryadye Park Design Competition. Yesterday, the jury held an eight-hour long meeting the Jury and selected six teams out of 90 applications. The main criteria was composition of a consortium, consisting of representatives of various specialties, and consortium portfolio. On 27 September 2013 the six participants will provide landscape and architectural concepts for Zaryadye park. After the technical expertise these projects will be presented to the Jury early November 2013. And later on the Winner will be involved in implementation of the project.

The six finalists include teams lead by:

Diller Scofidio + Renfro (USA)

MVRDV (the Netherlands)

Turenscape (China)

ТПО РЕЗЕРВ (Russia)

West 8 (the Netherlands)

Gustafson Porter (UK)

Water Works Park shortlist announced

Minneapolis Parks Foundation recently announced the shorlist  for the Water Works park schematic design project. The three shortlisted teams include

  • Gustafson Guthrie Nicol with VJAA and Interboro (Seattle/Minneapolis/New York);
  • SCAPE with Rogers Marvel (New York);
  • Team West 8 (Rotterdam/New York).

A five-member Designer Selection Committee chose the teams from a pool of 27 responses representing seven U.S. states and five European countries to the April RFP for schematic design for a new urban park on “America’s fourth coast.”
