Fort Mason Center in San Francisco has revealed the three finalists designs from Bruner/Cott, West 8 and AMP Arquitectos for the Fort Mason Design Competition. The finalists were selected from twenty invited firms, in selecting the three finalists the jury looked for a partner to articulate a sustainable future for Fort Mason Center helping to develop a suite of ideas that will evolve as the campus moves forward.

Almere with MVRDV wins Floriade 2022
Today, the Nederlandse Tuinbouwraad (NTR) announced the city of Almere, the winner of the 2022 Floriade, the world horticultural expo which takes place once every ten years in the Netherlands and is currently ending in Venlo. The MVRDV plan for Almere is not a temporary expo site but a lasting green Cité Idéale as an extension to the existing city centre. The waterfront site opposite the city centre will be developed as a vibrant new urban neighbourhood and also a giant plant library which will remain beyond the expo. Almere with MVRDV won the competition against Boskoop with OMA/Rem Koolhaas, Groningen with West 8 and Amsterdam Bijlmer with MTD Landscape Architect.

NYC breaks ground on new Governors Island Park

Recently, New York City officials broke ground on Phase 1 of the new Governors Island Park, with over 30 acres including Liggett Terrace, a six acre plaza with seasonal plantings, seating, water features and public art; Hammock Grove, a ten acre space that is home to 2,000 new trees, play areas and hammocks; and the Play Lawn, 14 acres for play and relaxation that includes two turf ball fields sized for adult softball and Little League baseball. Also to be built will be welcome areas, a re-graded Parade Ground and key visitor amenities, including lighting, seating and signage throughout the Historic District.

20 firms invited for Phase 1 of Fort Mason Center Revisited

Fort Mason Center has announced the 20 firms invited for Phase 1 of the  FORT MASON CENTER REVISITED design competition. In Phase 1 requires the firms to submit a Statement of Interest and the teams qualifications. Phase 2 will include three finalists selected to develop concepts for the Pier One(currently storage), the Public Realm and improving connections to the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate National Recreation. The 20 invited firms with several landscape architecture firms selected for Phase 1 including:  ! Melk, Conger Moss Guillard (CMG), Hood Design, James Corner Field Operations (JCFO), Sasaki Associates, SWA Group, West 8 New York.
