Studio Egret West is a 70-strong team comprised of a mix of landscape architects, urban designers, architects, graphic designers, model makers, filmmakers and thinkers, all of whom contribute to designing rich and diverse neighbourhoods.

For the past 18 years, Studio Egret West has delivered some of the UK’s most exciting, high-quality placemaking projects through the symbiosis of memorable architecture, strategic urban design and ecology-driven landscape.

1Northlake, Thurrock: ‘The Lido’ – part of a new neighbourhood including new sports and community facilities, a new school, extensive green links and open space to entwine new with old, and 2500 new homes.

Digbeth, Birmingham – As part of a 42 acres regeneration project, the River Rea will be exposed and the canal celebrated.

The success of the practice and the places they create is based on the layering and symbiosis of these three disciplines. This ability to think across a range of scales has always led to involvement in complex regeneration projects that typically offer medium and high-density living in mixed-use places; places with compelling narratives and identities, and places that are rooted and grown out from their context. Places that cultivate sustainable communities, amplify nature, prioritise the public realm, and evolve over time.

Balfron Tower, Poplar, London: The playground, which had been unsafe, anti-social and closed in, is now transformed into a modern, state of the art play space, with new slides, climbing walls and a rubberised floor finish to soften its use and appearance.

As a practice, we have a clear approach to landscape architecture. We create compelling, characterful, and comfortable landscapes for people to use. Studio Egret West’s landscape direction is often rooted in site-specific inspiration. These may be visible or invisible references discovered through site visits, and research and often manifest through the retention of existing features or abstract portrayal of former uses and stories. Our intent is to create authentic landscapes which connect audiences in creative ways with a specific environment. They also follow an ambition to draw the qualities of the surrounding countryside into our cities. In doing this, Studio Egret West aim to improve and repair ecological connectivity through urban areas and make nature accessible to all.
