AMP Northampton is open for consultation

West Northamptonshire Council has gone live with it’s first stage of engagement for AMP Northampton, amplifying the opportunity at Greyfriars.

This 14-acre site is the largest brownfield opportunity in West Northamptonshire. Since the demolition of the bus station, it has lain empty and derelict, severed from the heart of the town and Market Square by infrastructure, challenging level changes, and daunting passageways.

The engagement is part of the development of Studio Egret West and West Northamptonshire Council’s masterplan for the Greyfriars area of Northampton, which includes Belgrave House, Mayorhold Multi Storey Car Park, Victoria Street Car Park, the Corn Exchange and the site of the former bus station. The website, designed by Deetu, goes through the themes that have informed the emerging vision:

  • Creativity
  • Nature
  • Play
  • Linkages
  • Living
  • Sustainability

“We were immediately struck by the opportunity at Greyfriars to deliver a truly atypical vision that is both perception-shifting and pragmatic. In order to be successful this site needs a highly collaborative approach that reaches beyond the red line. We look forward to engaging with local partners such as the University of Northampton to build an inspiring juxtaposition of uses, infused with the industrious spirit of Northampton. We believe in growing places organically and intend to set out tangible interventions that can transform this part of town from day one.”

David West, Founding Director of Studio Egret West

On the website, after the storyboard, there is the opportunity to fill in a survey, which will then be used to inform the masterplan, which Studio Egret West will showcase as part of another round of engagement in the Spring. Please visit ampnorthampton.com to find out more.
