UNITY | a modular toolkit for shaping playful landscapes

Vestre has recently introduced UNITY – a new furniture series developed in collaboration with German landscape architect Nikolai Soyka and his agency schöne aussichten landschaftsarchitektur (sala). Designed for public spaces like schoolyards, campuses and city squares, UNITY is a modular toolkit that transforms flat, hard surfaces into green, social landscapes that invite people to rest, gather or play – united, regardless of differences.

With its faceted geometry and angles, UNITY breaks the flatness of urban spaces and brings a tactile experience of nature into the city. The series includes seating, planters and hybrid modules that can be combined in endless ways to create inviting, structured environments. Whether used as quiet retreats or vibrant meeting places, UNITY modules encourage interaction and support a wide range of activities.

Green, social landscapes – anywhere

Not all urban areas allow for planting in the ground. UNITY offers a flexible alternative with large planter modules that add greenery without permanent installation. These green pockets can support urban biodiversity, attract insects, and enhance the overall atmosphere – making public spaces more inviting and uplifting.

The series’ asymmetric modules – with varying heights and sloped surfaces – echo the contours of natural terrain. This adds rhythm, orientation and structure, making spaces more intuitive and inviting.

Each module has an irregular footprint and is available in mirrored versions. Options include flat or sloping seating in steel or wood, stand-alone planters, and hybrid combinations. Vertical steel plant walls serve as backrests, visual openings or climbing structures – depending on the configuration.

Used individually or in larger constellations, UNITY gives you the freedom to shape playful landscapes that adapt to the needs of the space.

Built to last, easy to install

UNITY is designed for demanding public use. The modules are made from hot-dip galvanized steel (with optional powder coating in over 200 RAL colours) and high-quality Scandinavian pine. They’re manufactured at The Plus in Norway and our steel factory in Torsby, Sweden, in line with Vestre’s high sustainability standards.

Seating modules are delivered partially assembled; planters come fully assembled. All have integrated base plates and can be bolted directly to the ground for quick, secure and cost-effective installation.

A creative tool for inclusive design

UNITY is more than a furniture series – it’s a modular toolkit developed by and for landscape architects. It encourages collaboration and co-creation, with elements that adapt to different users and settings.

By blending structure with freedom, UNITY helps shape urban spaces that are inclusive, vibrant, and full of life. It’s a new approach to public furniture – one that fosters connection, creativity, and care for the environment.
