Opened in 2018, the largest academic building on the Texas A&M campus has become the social and academic hub of the university. The 3.25-acre Zachry Engineering Education Complex and E-Quad, designed by landscape architecture firm Coleman & Associates, celebrates learning, relaxing, recreation, and dining outdoors. A rooftop plaza offers long views of the campus and plenty of places to congregate and study. The large ground-level plaza features sustainable landscape design − a Coleman & Associates focus − and active gathering areas with a mix of chairs, benches, and power stations to keep students connected physically and digitally.
The design of this distinct green space demonstrates the social and ecological benefits of sustainable landscape design. Unique details, from the design of custom lounging plinths to the inclusion of favorite mathematic formulas in the paving, exemplify the design philosophy of putting engineering on display. As the largest academic building on the Texas A&M campus, the Zachry Engineering Education Complex and E-Quad have set a new bar for experiential learning and the formation of the campus community in outdoor space.
