Slums bursting at the seams

More than three hundred thousand people could be living in sub-human conditions in the slums by the end of the decade if the unplanned growth of the Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi continues, urban planners associated with private companies say. Various civic agencies of the twin cities would be largely responsible for this horrendous state of affairs. “Non-adherence to the sensible planning has already driven the twin cities to the brink of a breakdown, bringing the services and utilities under severe strain from more than 13 hundred thousand people (the current population of the twin cities),” a member of the Rawalpindi planning board says.
