With its landscapes designed by Gillespies, Port Sunlight River Park has been created on the former Bromborough landfill site. The 28 hectare park is part of the Wirral Coastal Path and gives access to the River Mersey and views of the Liverpool skyline to visitors for the first time in over 20 years. People visiting the park will be able to enjoy unrivalled views of the stunning waterfront, and beyond, from the top of the 37 metre high mound. The site also boasts beautiful wetlands and a variety of flora, fauna and birds.
The site is on a long term lease to The Land Trust, which has appointed Wirral Autistic Society to manage it. The opening of the park has been long awaited by many, not least local residents, who are thrilled that their views will now be enhanced by a stunning green, natural space, rather than the landfill site that they previously endured.
Visitors to the park can meander around its pathways, take in the views and see how this space has been given back to nature.
A brand new country park, Port Sunlight River Park, on the Wirral Coastal Path will officially open to the public on August 12th at 1.30pm.
