Crater Hill embodies both beauty and modern design. The project includes the landscape design of 16.5 acres and the complete renovation of an existing home to accommodate a sophisticated family’s love of art. Landscape architect, Gavin Duke, worked closely with art collector homeowners to design innovative outdoor living spaces to feature their interests and passions.

Crater Hill has an overlooking view to the heart of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, from ten miles away. This sixteen and a half acre site incorporates an interpretation of modern architecture with clean lines and bold structures emphasized by a backdrop of soft and naturalized landscape edges. The scenic arrival drive takes visitors up the hill flanked with sweepy edges of ornamental grasses and indigenous plantings. Floating steps set a syncopated rhythm. A series of outdoor vistas progress from pool terrace to family lawn, and recline to a private master terrace overlook. The outdoor sculpture collection, including a kinetic sculpture by George Rickey on the West Terrace, reflects a museum-quality atmosphere, evoking a serene natural environment. This client, architect, and landscape architect team, collaborated to execute an extraordinary vision from inside to out.
