Canterbury Cathedral Landscape Design Competition

Canterbury Cathedral is England’s first Cathedral and Mother Church; it welcomes over a million visitors a year. The Canterbury Cathedral Landscape Design Competition is an exciting initiative, which seeks to find the best design team to re-imagine and reinvigorate the existing setting. It is a rare opportunity to bring fresh thinking and new ideas to the landscape of one of England’s most famous buildings.

We welcome Expressions of Interest from multi-disciplinary teams with landscaping expertise who can deliver an innovative and exciting project to deadlines and within the budget. We are particularly keen to identify and support emerging talent. We are open-minded about the composition of teams, but would encourage interesting collaborations with artists, craftspeople and ecologists. The team-lead may be a landscape designer or architect, but equally, could be another design specialist.

The design competition is made possible through a gift from Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing. It is being managed on behalf of Canterbury Cathedral by Malcolm Reading Consultants.
