Tenure-Track Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture (2 posts) (Ref.: 201400020) Hong Kong University
Applications are invited for two tenure-track appointments as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor [posts (A) and (B)] in the Division of Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture, from August 1, 2014, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure during the second fixed-term contract.
Applicants should have a professional degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related field, and preferably full membership in a recognized professional landscape architecture institute. Preference may be given to those holding a Ph.D. degree who can demonstrate innovative teaching and design skills and have a track record of research in landscape architecture. We are interested in design educators with a mulitdisciplinary background who can bring additional expertise in areas such as living systems technologies, material explorations, and landscape management regimes that can enhance the Division’s focus on urban, industrial and infrastructural landscapes. For both posts, the appointees will be required to teach design and supervise research postgraduate students. They will also be required to undertake administrative / development work for the landscape architecture programme(s), and produce relevant high-quality academic research output. For post (A), the appointee will direct and lead the teaching of the sequence of courses in history and contemporary theory of the landscape architectural discipline within both undergraduate and postgraduate landscape programs, and coordinate the teaching of these courses with related design studios, technical courses and research seminars. For post (B), the appointee will direct and lead the sequence of courses related to landscape representation at multiple scales (including fabrication, simulation, GIS, etc.) within both undergraduate and postgraduate landscape programs, and integrate digital media into the Division’s teaching curricula and research initiatives.
A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as annual leave, and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
