The London Studio of HASSELL, working with Arup, has been appointed by Tbilisi City Hall to carry out the concept design of the new Tbilisi Zoo on the outskirts of the Georgian capital city. The project will see the existing city centre zoo replaced by a zoological and recreation complex adjacent to the inland lake known as Tbilisi Sea.

The Alipore Zoo in India was founded in 1875 spread across 45 acres housing numerous animals. A new masterplan is being formulated to upgrade facilities, change the housing of most animals, and ban visitors from being food to the zoo. Such a masterplan has been long coming at the zoo as organisations such as PETA have protested and brought to light the issues of cramp cages and living conditions for many of the animals.
