The Paul Baumgartner-designed Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe is being restored. The campus of the court complex is to be revitalized and situated adjacent to the botanical garden and is part of the Schlossgarten.
West 8’s winning competition entry features a grassland with stylized concrete tracks which make a patterned landscape in which the buildings float. The design is characterized by its modesty, and by the strategic integration of the monumental buildings with their broader context.

West 8 urban design & landscape architecture has won the Land-art design competition for the Werpsterhoek junction in the Leeuwarden by-pass. The proposal that embodies a terp landscape will now be further developed. Architect Pieter Hoen: “You could say that we have made a large terp [local name for flood relief mound], thus providing a silhouette that fits in the Frisian landscape”. Particularly appealing to the jury were the simplicity and restraint applied in the design. It does not compete with the silhouette of the city, rather it provides a modest foreground.

The WEST 8 designed Lincoln Park is a new meeting place in town. Centrally located in the Art District at the monumental terminus of lively Lincoln Road, the park has multiple functions. During the day the park is shaded by pergolas and palm trees. In the evening it is a cultural hotspot, one of the special attractions of the park being a video and sound installation – projecting concerts and video art on building’s 700m² wall, which serves as an outdoor screen for the park. The park is an urban garden that expresses the euphoria of Miami, and will be actively programmed for public and cultural events.

Parks are like poetry and music. They basically have no reason to exist—that is also what is so special about them. They are places where you can dream about a non-realistic, non-time-related world.

The contemporary urban block with five separate volumetric volumes designed by 5 different architects including MVRDV, Pierre Gautier, Manuelle Gautrand, ECDM and Erik van Egeraat. The public plaza – ‘Cour de Loges was designed by WEST 8.
