Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg (PSF) design was recommended for Lansdowne Park after a winning the design competition held back in 2010 beating out Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, SWA, West 8 and Williams, Asselin, Ackaoui & Associates. Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg have continued on with the design process over the last two years have been working as part of the team of other design professionals and City of Ottawa to integrate the new park design with other elements of the project. The ‘new Lansdowne’ project includes – a large new park(Lansdowne Park), a re-designed stadium and Civic Centre, and a village of boutique shops and stores, services and residences – into a single plan.
West 8’s project Jubilee Gardens is finally going ahead and will screen live footage of the 2012 Olympics. The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has recently announced £11.5m funding to six London boroughs for public space projects that will transform the look and feel of the Capital in time for the 2012 Games.
Jubilee Gardens is situated on the iconic Southbank and forms part of Lambeth, one of the funded boroughs. Lambeth will get £1.5m to create a live site for the 2012 Games and a world-class park.
St. Petersburg has sponsored an international design competition for the redesign and replacement of its landmark Pier. Finalists included Bjarke Ingels Group, Michael Maltzan Architecture, and WEST 8 Urban Design and Landscape Architecture who submitted their designs on November 29 and are now displayed at the “Look, Think, Share” exhibit for public viewing and comment from December 6 to December 30.
