Samsung Everland, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is inviting students in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design programs around the world to participate in our design competition. BIG with West 8, Fentress, JPA propose Miami Beach Square


Miami Beach is a unique city in so many ways. It is one of the youngest cities in America – and perhaps right now one of the most vibrant and dynamic. Its streetscape is characterized by a lively walkable urban fabric with a friendly human scaled environment under the cool shade of tropical trees and art deco canopies – except at the convention center. It is a dead black hole of asphalt in the heart of one the most beautiful and lively cities in America. Our mission is to bring Miami Beach back to the Convention Center – and to imagine an architecture and an urban space unique to the climate and culture of Miami Beach.

Designs of the Year 2013 Nominations

The Design Museum announced the contenders for the sixth annual Designs of the Year. They include the best designs from around the world in the last 12 months across seven categories: Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Product and Transport.

Three landscapes have been nominated including SUPERKILEN, NØRREBRO by BIG, TOPOTEK1 and Superflex (ARCHITECTURE category); FOUR FREEDOMS PARK, NEW YORK by Louis Kahn(ARCHITECTURE category) and EXHIBITION ROAD by Dixon Jones/ The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (TRANSPORT category).

Gardens by the Bay and Kallang River Bishan Park win World Architecture Festival Awards

This week the World Architecture Festival has been under way and yesterday the festival awards were announced with Kallang River Bishan Park, Singapore winning the landscape prize and Gardens by the Bay, Singapore winning World Building of the Year.

Kallang River Bishan Park by Atelier Dreiseitl won the landscape prize as the judges deemed “This remarkable project fundamentally transforming the urban landscape of Singapore by rethinking the fundamentals of 1960s thinking, transforming a drainage canal into an eco- and people-friendly urban space.”

Gardens by the Bay winning World Building of the Year with the award officially going to  Wilkinson Eyre Architects for the design of the Cooled Conservatories. However, Paul Finch, Festival Director stressed at the awards ceremony that this was a magnificent team effort and that the whole team should be recognised – in addition to the architect, the landscape architect Grant Associates and engineers Atelier One and Atelier Ten. Congratulations to Atelier Dreiseitl and all of the Gardens By the Bay team.
