The goal of modern development has created a clear separation between agricultural and industrial activities, between human and nature, between fluid and solid territories, which become a threat to human living. As we move forwards and slowly detach from nature, we neglect the power of it and forget how we once live with it. Ayutthaya is the city which illustrates such on-going situation clearly, from the day when water was city’s breath to the day when water become city’s catastrophe to local economy, society and environment. In planning for the prospect Ayutthaya we shall try to understand the formation of crisis, in order to determine the new balance between water, Ayutthaya living and Chao Phraya river basin.

As part of Beijing Design Week the “Hutopolis: city visions” is an exhibition that collects one year of research, experiments and events organized in Asia and Europe by the Hutopolis research program with the goal of creating feasible solutions for urban planning in China.

Soft and physical strategies, visions and ideas have been developed taking Beijing as case study Conceived as a collaborative network featuring a series of proposals from different backgrounds, the exhibition showcases strategies based on four sites in both historical and modern areas of the city.

The familiar purview of design as it relates to the built environment is the making of space in a material and experiential sense.  This shaping of physical urban form is the accumulated product of a range of disciplinary capacities and expertise – architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, engineering, fine arts and communication design among many others. Professional capacity, in this context, is most often deployed in response to the explicit demands or implicit desires of a client or program, characterizing design primarily as a responsive, service-based method.

UPDATE | The Barangaroo Delivery Authority today released the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to seek an experienced and highly qualified team to provide master planning services for Barangaroo Central. Submissions will close at 2pm (Sydney Time) on Wednesday 26 September 2012.  The RFP is available for download at Barangaroo Delivery Authority.

An international search is on for a masterplanning team for Barangaroo’s 5.2 hectare central precinct. Barangaroo is a 22 hectare former container port on the western edge of Sydney’s downtown district. The Barangaroo Delivery Authority (BDA) is searching for the world’s best in urban planning, urban design and architecture professions. “We are looking for a world class team, with the skills and experience to collaborate with the Authority to provide master planning services that achieve the vision and objectives for Barangaroo Central,” said John Tabart, CEO of the Barangaroo Delivery Authority.
