The Plaza at Harvard University | Cambridge USA | Stoss


The Plaza occupies a difficult site in Cambridge, at the seam between Harvard’s historic Yard and its North Campus, and in a public right-of-way atop a roadway tunnel laden with city and University utilities. The site was a busy cross-roads for students and faculty moving between classes and residences, for city residents walking to nearby subway and bus stations, and for visitors touring the campus or visiting one of the University’s museums.

Weddle Gilmore including !melk and Floor Associates awarded Hance Park Master Plan Design

The City of Phoenix recently held an RFQ for Margaret T. Hance Park Master Plan Design. The city received 20 submittals and short-listed to four teams lead by Weddle Gilmore, Stoss, Gould Evans and West 8.

The City of Phoenix decided that the Weddle Gilmore team as the successful  submitter. Their team includes: !melk, Floor Associates, HR&A, ETM  Associates, City Activators Inc., Rider Levett Bucknall, Pentagram, Kimber Lanning, Public Workshop, David Evans Assoc, Buro Happold, IAS Labs, Artistic Arborist, and RAMM.

This is an award recommendation pending final approval.

CityDeck Phase 2 | Green Bay USA | Stoss
The CityDeck in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA, is a new connective infrastructure along the city’s downtown riverfront. It was designed as a series of folding wood planes that establish large-scale connections between the river and a newly renovated city fabric. The folded surfaces were rendered as benches, chaise lounges, and sunbathing platforms at the scale of the human body; and as collective gathering spaces, river overlooks, ramps and steps along and over the river.

Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum Announces Winners of National Design Awards

James Corner, Field Operations has been awarded the National Design Award in the area of Landscape Design and Kieran Timberlake wins the award for Architecture.

The finalists for the Landscape Design Award included Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture, and Stoss Landscape Urbanism.

The Awards are given in various areas of Design including Landscape, Architecture, Communication, Interior, Fashion, Product Design, Interaction Design, Lifetime Achievement, Design Mind, Corporate and Institutional Achievement.

The 2010 National Design Award nominations were solicited from a committee of more than 2,500 designers, educators, journalists, cultural figures and corporate leaders from every state in the nation. Nominees must have at least seven years of experience in order to be nominated, and winners are selected based on the level of excellence, innovation and public impact of their body of work.
