Celebrate the future of NYC parks at Freshkills Park’s 4th  annual Sneak Peak. The former landfill on Staten Island’s western shore is being transformed into the City’s largest park but is not yet open to the public. Don’t miss this special opportunity to get a first look! This year’s event offers more than three miles of walking and biking paths.  Free activities include kayaking, free bike share, numerous public artworks and performances, balloon aerial photography, science talks, food trucks, climbing walls,  and pony rides for the kids. There will be continuous shuttle bus service to and from the St. George Ferry Terminal.
The event is FREE and open to the public.

Governors Island opens with new spaces and behind the scenes tours


Governors Island will open to the public on Saturday 25 May with new spaces and behind the scenes tours. Soissons Landing and the South Battery are new spaces that have been transformed. The South Battery, once a parking lot is now a new green space surrounding one of the Island’s forts.

Soissons Landing and the South Battery are part of the Park and Public space master plan designed by the acclaimed landscape architecture firm West 8. The first phase includes 30 acres of new park in the center of the Island that has always been off limits to the public.

Fresh Kills Sneak Peak 2012

On Sunday, 23 September the NYC Parks & Recreation will open the 2,200-acre Fresh Kills Landfill for the third year to give a free sneak peek to the transformation into NYC’s biggest and most fascinating new park, on Staten Island’s west shore.

Put the event in your diary/smartphone for your sunday in the outdoors. Arrangements have been made for free shuttle buses from Staten Island Ferry so there is little stopping New Yorkers getting out to Fresh Kills for a Sneak Peak.
