The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013 is designed by multi award-winning Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto. He is the thirteenth and, at 41, the youngest architect to accept the invitation to design a temporary structure for the Serpentine Gallery. The most ambitious architectural programme of its kind worldwide, the Serpentine’s annual Pavilion commission is one of the most anticipated events on the cultural calendar.

2012 In Review | June

In June we published the most amazing project of 2012 - Gardens by the Bay in Singapore designed by Grant Associates which won the World Building of the Year at WAF. June also saw Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei’s 2012 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion and West 8’s Jubilee Gardens open in London.

DutchDFA recently published a video profile of Piet Oudolf, a world renown landscape designer who has help create some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes including the High Line, Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2011, Lurie Garden and many other landscapes. In this video Piet talks about his relationship with plants and designing with perennials and take us through his private garden and takes about the High Line. Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei have created the 2012 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. It is the twelfth commission in the Gallery’s annual series, the world’s first and most ambitious architectural programme of its kind. The design team responsible for the celebrated Beijing National Stadium, which was built for the 2008 Olympic Games has come together again in London in 2012 for the Serpentine’s acclaimed annual commission, presented as part of the London 2012 Festival, the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad. The Pavilion is Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei’s first collaborative built structure in the UK.
