Grand Park’s landscape architecture and architecture by Rios Clementi Hale Studios creates a distinctive, interconnected, and inviting space. The design is inspired by the diversity of the people of the region, both explicitly and implicitly, in the variety of its lawns, terraces, plazas, and gardens. Although Grand Park is a significant marker of the county, it is not meant to be a static monument, but rather act as the “front- and backyards” for the community. Rios Clementi Hale Studios has transformed a dull space into a vibrant community plaza in Los Angeles by creating the new Sunset Triangle Plaza under the auspices of Streets for People (S4P), an initiative of the City of Los Angeles Planning Commission and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Rios Clementi Hale Studios contributed its time and talents to transform an underutilized public right of way into a safe, pleasant, and vibrant public space for pedestrians and cyclists alike. Located at Griffith Park and Sunset Boulevards in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles, Sunset Triangle Plaza opens on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 11AM, for a community celebration.
“Our intent was to functionally and visually integrate the plaza into the urban fabric of Hollywood Boulevard, and create an environment to satisfy the diverse groups intersecting on this stretch of it,” says Frank Clementi, AIA, AIGA,Rios Clementi Hale Studios principal. “We envisioned an energetic space, cross-referencing the block’s main elements, merging its people, and linking Hollywood’s iconic past to its revitalized present.”
