Narodna square in Uzhgorod is located in front of house of administration, in the center of one of the best residential areas of the city, near the waterfront, close to university and public institutions. Currently, the square is empty, it looks like huge lawn surrounded by parking. The main objective of the project – to convert existing square into active public space, provide new leisure opportunities for the inhabitants, to make the conditions for staying in this environment. The main idea still is that space should not impose any specific function, but rather to offer free interpretation of space.

The main idea behind the design of the reconstructed square in Frýdlant was to create an open, unobstructed public space – a square that allows residents and visitors to enjoy all types of activities. The use of three types of paving tiles, two types of stone and the patterns in which these were laid differentiates various types of spaces on the square. With the exception of the parking lot, the square was realised as a barrier-free space.

The modern aesthetic of this striking home was embraced by the landscape architect during the renovation of the coastal garden. The design of the renovated landscape unifies the site with the residence by embracing the distinctive architectural language and existing plant palette while incorporating contemporary standards of environmental stewardship. The resultant garden is a contemporary landscape informed by the site’s modern flare.

Zollhallen Plaza is new counterpart for the historic customs hall which was restored in 2009. The plaza is a fine example of water sensitive urban design, as it is disconnected from the sewer system. Beautiful planters provide infiltration points, and subsurface gravel trenches with innovative in-built filter medium reduce the hydraulic overload on the sewer system.

Zeytouneh Square is one of four squares in a sequence of connected urban spaces along the Shoreline Walk, which forms an important part of the reconstruction of the Beirut city centre. The area suffered extensive physical and emotional damage during civil war between 1975 and 1991.
