After a seven-month nationwide competition, the design for Washington, DC’s 11th Street Bridge Park by OMA + OLIN was unanimously selected by the competition jury. The design team was asked to transform an aged-out freeway bridge into a one of a kind new civic space over the Anacostia River.

World Architecture Festival Awards announced

Recently, the World Architecture Festival Awards were announced with National Arboretum Canberra, Australia by Taylor Cullity Lethlean and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer winning the Landscape Award with Turenscape’s Slow Down: Liupanshui Minghu Wetland Park, China earning a Highly Commended in the same category. The North West Cambridge Masterplan by AECOM won the Masterplanning – Future Projects Award. Goto the Awards website to find out more about the winners.

Winner of Sokolniki Park Competition announced

Groundlab (UK), WOWHAUS (Russia), and “Urbanica” (Russia) have been announced as the winners of Sokolniki Park design competition. Sokolniki Park is the Moscow’s largest park (515,7 ha) and the winning design is set to be used as the conceptual framework for Sokolniki Park development over the next 15 years. “The Embassy of Nature” was selected by the international jury through voting at Moscow Department of Culture.

Minneapolis is seeking a landscape architect to design the “Commons”

The City of Minneapolis is seeking a qualified landscape architect-led team to design the “Commons” (formerly known as “The Yard”), a two-block, 4.2 acre area bounded by Park Avenue, 4th and 5th Streets, and a proposed building on 5th Avenue South.

“This is an exciting opportunity for a landscape architect-led design team to shape a part of our city by creating an engaging, innovative, year-round public space,” said Tom Fisher, Co-Chair of the Park Committee, Dean of the University of Minnesota Design School. “The Commons will not only serve as the front yard before every Viking’s home game and major event hosted at the
new multipurpose stadium, but will be that world class destination that draws more residents, visitors, and investment to downtown Minneapolis.”

5 design teams unveil designs for Presidio Parklands

Five international landscape architecture and design teams recently presented their concepts for 13 new acres of Presidio parklands. The new parklands will be created by the replacement of the elevated highway (Doyle Drive) that has cut through the Presidio for seven decades, with a below-grade roadway covered by tunnels. The Presidio Trust, in partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and National Park Service, asked the five teams to develop creative concepts to inspire ideas about what could happen at the site.

The five teams: CMG Landscape Architecture, James Corner Field Operations, OLIN, SNØHETTA, and West 8 Team, presented their concepts at a public meeting . The teams were selected from 25 respondents to a request for qualifications in March, 2014. They were provided with a stipend and tasked with developing conceptual design and programming for the new landscape.

The ‘Olympicopolis’ Design Competition is now open with the organisers seeking “a multi-disciplinary design team of the highest quality, which can realise the project’s objectives and relate to the client and the partner ensemble.”. Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s Culture and Education Quarter is a multi-faceted design challenge, drawing on skills in masterplanning, architecture and public realm design, along with planning, engineering and cost consultancy.

Expressions of Interest by 2 pm UK time October 17, 2014. This is a two-stage, international design competition. Initially Expressions of Interest are sought. Following the first stage, five teams will be shortlisted for the second stage.

The Municipality of Leiden is improving accessibility of the city in general and of the Bio Science Park in particular. In order to fully utilize the development potential of the Bio Science Park a new access road should be realized from the Plesman Avenue which also improves the traffic flow of the Plesman Avenue itself.
