A new open space has been designed between the river Neisse and the inner city which uses landscape and urban elements. A spaciously laid out „window“ had been opened to the river, a new path network, the „Tuchbahnen“ (spreads of fabric), is connecting the site with the adjacent quarters.

Baseball veterans, including a participant from the final game played, were on hand to throw out a ceremonial first pitch for the recent grand opening of San Diego’s Lane Field Park, created by Civitas. The park was placed on the former site of Lane Field baseball stadium, home to the then-Pacific Coast League San Diego Padres from 1936-1957 – history that played an integral role in the design. At the same time, this new park is visually tied to the Port of San Diego’s massive North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, which includes the Civitas-designed grand esplanade that opened in November 2014 just across Harbor Drive.

Carrying the historic legacy of the Korean industrial era, the oil depot site has been forgotten and abandoned for many years. Disconnected from its surrounding communities, the site has been overlooked by the irresistible flow of Seoul’s development and opportunities. Our competition proposal is about re-discovering the area through creation of a narrative that weaves the old and new into an experiential landscape, creating a cultural park celebrating South Korea’s industrial heritage.

Green Park, a business community near Reading, designed in the mid-1990s, recently won a prestigious UK Civic Trust Award (2014). Place Design and Planning, a London-based landscape architecture and urban design practice, has been responsible for the 195 acres landscape scheme and continues to develop it with the current owners, Oxford Properties, and the estates management company, Broadgate Estates.

Brannskjær Park will be built on Oslo’s most exciting and important post-industrial waterfront site, Filipstad, and will be by far the largest publically accessible open space within the Fjord City Plan. LINK Landskap’s sketch plan for this significant new public park will be used by the site’s owner, The Port Authority (Oslo Havn KF), to illustrate their aims and ambitions for the site and as a basis for future design development.

Signe Nielsen | Principal, Mathews Nielsen
To celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8), we thought it would be great to talk to Signe Nielsen, Principal at Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects. Mathews Nielsen has several projects currently showing as part of the Built By Women exhibition in New York. Signe Nielsen is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and has led more than 400 projects, nationally and globally. But her sense of design’s public mission extends far beyond these interventions. In addition to her hands-on project leadership, she is the co-author of several books on sustainable and green design for the NYC Department of Design and Construction. Signe has taught at Pratt Institute for more than two decades and has also lectured and juried competitions at institutions around the world, including Harvard University and the Ecole Normale Superiure in Paris.
