Almere with MVRDV wins Floriade 2022
Today, the Nederlandse Tuinbouwraad (NTR) announced the city of Almere, the winner of the 2022 Floriade, the world horticultural expo which takes place once every ten years in the Netherlands and is currently ending in Venlo. The MVRDV plan for Almere is not a temporary expo site but a lasting green Cité Idéale as an extension to the existing city centre. The waterfront site opposite the city centre will be developed as a vibrant new urban neighbourhood and also a giant plant library which will remain beyond the expo. Almere with MVRDV won the competition against Boskoop with OMA/Rem Koolhaas, Groningen with West 8 and Amsterdam Bijlmer with MTD Landscape Architect.

Market of Vlaardingen - Stijlgroep landscape and urban design

The Market of Vlaardingen is the very most historic part of Vlaardingen (NL). Since the early beginnings this has been the space of the public, cultural life and it is still. Stijlgroep landscape and urban design had been commissioned for the redesign of this prominent square. The design phase has been completed in 2011 and the square is due to delivery in 2012.

The monumental trees, the existing brick walls around the church, the historic town hall and the Geuzenmonument (reminding of the first major resistance group in the Netherlands and the people who died in concentration camps) define the atmosphere of the Market.

Orientation by Light-Maasstad Hospital-Stijlgroep

Seating Elements by Night

Getting lost in a huge building is not only a fear of most users, but happens quite regular. The new hospital of Rotterdam South is one of those huge developments with an enormous building mass. The design team came up with a unique concept for the five patios being located along the central internal corridor with a length of 500 meters. Sustainability means for designers to focus on the need of the users. With the concept of three different themes combined with special lighting elements the right answer in this context was given: The patios are as orientation point the central heart of the new development and meet the demands as part of the healing environment. Special lighting elements emphasize the identity of each patio.
