Fort “Werk aan ‘t Spoel” is a national monument dating from 1794. Part of the New Dutch Waterline – a military defense line making use of intentional flooding – it served to protect one of the inundation locks. The municipality of Culemborg and Foundation Werk aan ‘t Spoel would like to see the derelict fort become a public attraction.

Plan Tide by Stijlgroep landscape and urban design is one of several projects selected by the jurors of the Suburbia 2.0 competition, an international competition for built and unbuilt residential landscapes. Suburbia 2.0 was held by James Rose Center for landscape architectural research and design. Plan Tide was former sports fields envisioned as unique and distinctive landscape orientated residential area.
The exhibition ‘Firemen walk with us’ confronts the risk-adverse behavior that currently characterizes our society. When it comes to the temporary use of vacant buildings, fire safety is one of the major obstacles to be overcome. After sunset visitors are invited to discover the dark Eiffel building in Maastricht. By creating a landscape of fire in this deserted architectural icon, Maastricht’s Fire Department and Rietveld Landscape show that the thousands of vacant properties offer far more possibilities for use, than one would expect. The Market of Vlaardingen is the very most historic part of Vlaardingen (NL). Since the early beginnings this has been the space of the public, cultural life and it is still. Stijlgroep landscape and urban design had been commissioned for the redesign of this prominent square. The design phase has been completed in 2011 and the square is due to delivery in 2012. The monumental trees, the existing brick walls around the church, the historic town hall and the Geuzenmonument (reminding of the first major resistance group in the Netherlands and the people who died in concentration camps) define the atmosphere of the Market.
