Carve reinvigorate a Van Eyck paddling pool as a magnet for city kids

In the 1950s, 60s and 70s almost all Amsterdam city parks, including Oosterpark, have had playful additions designed by the famous Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck. Employed by the Municipality of Amsterdam, Van Eyck designed more than 700 public play zones between 1947 and 1978. They illustrate his vision on the use of a city, in which play zones become a present architectonically interesting urban element, that brings together young and old. Especially Van Eyck’s paddling pools function as true magnets for children during summertime, and his climbing igloos have become an intrinsic part of the youth of Amsterdam city kids generations.

The Willem Alexander Park, located at the foot of the Leidsche Rijn Centre in Utrecht is situated on top of the roof of the A2 tunnel. The park is part of the desired landscape corridor through Utrecht, formed by the Amsterdam Rhine Canal. The park is situated in between two anchors, the bridges crossing the canal. The neighbouring construction projects have been delayed. With the realisation of the ecological corridor in the North-South direction, the park adopts the existing A2 highway design theme: A2- migratory birds route.

Zoetermeer Vivaldi Care Home | Zoetermeer, The Netherlands | HOSPER

The care facility Vierstroom has asked HOSPER to make a design for the public and private outdoor spaces of the Vivaldi care home in Zoetermeer. The area is surrounded by water with flowering wet vegetation and trees on three sides. This increases the size of the area visually and at the same time has an important ecological function.

Winner of Sokolniki Park Competition announced

Groundlab (UK), WOWHAUS (Russia), and “Urbanica” (Russia) have been announced as the winners of Sokolniki Park design competition. Sokolniki Park is the Moscow’s largest park (515,7 ha) and the winning design is set to be used as the conceptual framework for Sokolniki Park development over the next 15 years. “The Embassy of Nature” was selected by the international jury through voting at Moscow Department of Culture.

Recently, the 15th edition of the International Garden Festival opened presenting 22 contemporary gardens at Les Jardins de Métis / Reford Gardens. Imagined by sixty-five designers from Seoul, Santiago de Compostela, New York, Philadelphia, Basel, Amsterdam, Paris and Montreal, these installations invite visitors to enter and contemplate new ways of seeing the landscape and the world.

VIDEO | Coastal Work starts on Katwijk in the Netherlands | OKRA


OKRA recently published a short video showing the construction work on the coast defence at Katwijk in the Netherlands. Alongside building the required coastal defence, the coast zone investments ensure that Katwijk remains a tourist destination and supporting the local economy of seaside towns. With the need to strengthen the Katwijk coast, care is taken to preserve the value of the existing town and, ultimately, how this can also be made stronger.

Artist Impression Purifying park ‘de Ceuvel’ (DELVA Landscape Architects in collaboration with space&matter)

DELVA Landscape Architects and the Association Ceuvel present the Purifying the Ceuvel Park. On the 21st of june, a new creative hotspot in Amsterdam Noord officially opens. The last few months, tenants, volunteers and students, worked hard on the boats, the jetty, the Ceuvel Café and the park.
