Groundlab (UK), WOWHAUS (Russia), and “Urbanica” (Russia) have been announced as the winners of Sokolniki Park design competition. Sokolniki Park is the Moscow’s largest park (515,7 ha) and the winning design is set to be used as the conceptual framework for Sokolniki Park development over the next 15 years. “The Embassy of Nature” was selected by the international jury through voting at Moscow Department of Culture.

Recently, the 15th edition of the International Garden Festival opened presenting 22 contemporary gardens at Les Jardins de Métis / Reford Gardens. Imagined by sixty-five designers from Seoul, Santiago de Compostela, New York, Philadelphia, Basel, Amsterdam, Paris and Montreal, these installations invite visitors to enter and contemplate new ways of seeing the landscape and the world.
OKRA recently published a short video showing the construction work on the coast defence at Katwijk in the Netherlands. Alongside building the required coastal defence, the coast zone investments ensure that Katwijk remains a tourist destination and supporting the local economy of seaside towns. With the need to strengthen the Katwijk coast, care is taken to preserve the value of the existing town and, ultimately, how this can also be made stronger. ‘Kavel K’ is situated on a triangular plot, boxed in by a railway track and a connecting road. It is a skating, sports- and youth facility which attracts a wide range of different user groups. The public space and the building are designed as a unity; the façade and the skate-cradle blend together.
The Overdiepse Polder, located on the south bank of the Bergsche Maas, is one of over 30 ‘Room for the River’ projects. In the polder preventative measures are being taken to enlarge the drainage capacity of the river during high water. So called ‘river widening’. This project is special because inhabitants and entrepreneurs in the polder came up with the solution early on: The Mound Plan.
