Design Competition for Public Art in Malta’s Industrial Zones

Call for Artists to participate in a Public Art Initiative to be implemented in Industrial Zones between 2012 and 2018. The 14 industrial zones where the public art initiatives will be undertaken are Bulebel, Kirkop, Attard, Hal Far, Kordin, Luqa, Marsa, Mosta Technopark, Mriehel, San Gwann, SAP, Ta Dbiegi, Ta Qali, and Xewkija. Site visits may also be held on demand for the purpose of ensuring that interested parties are clear on the actual location indicated.

Key landscape elements of SmartCity Malta include the entry gate and Main Boulevard, urban ring road, coastal promenade, lagoon, and cascading terraces. The streetscape and lighting scheme will further set the ambiance and enhance the built environment.

Valletta to lose 400 parking spots to Renzo Piano’s plans

Times of Malta reports

City Gate’s regeneration will see 400 parking spaces lost, the investments ministry said, and not 2,000 as claimed by the Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, GRTU.

The plans by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano will do away with the parking spaces in St James Ditch and Freedom Square, Valletta, an issue of concern for Valletta shop owners and office workers
