Singapore’s HDB launches new landscape guide

HDB-landscape-guideHousing & Development Board (HDB), Singapore’s public housing authority has launched a new landscape guide “not only serves to integrate designs at the precinct or town level, it also provides a comprehensive and up-to-date reference on the new standards and important landscape design principles for HDB estates.”  MOS Maliki Osman also stated that “built environment is landscaped also plays an important role in creating spaces that are visually attractive and functional for the community. More than just verdant greenery, the creative use of landscape design at the precinct, neighbourhood and town levels can enhance the quality of recreational areas, add to community vibrancy and improve the ambient temperature and surroundings.”

AILA: East-West Link will have severe ecological, cultural and heritage impacts


Analysis of Proposed East West Link Landscape Impacts

Australian Institute of Landscape Architects(AILA) has voiced its opposition to a new freeway link in the City of Melbourne that will cause the loss of 6% of one of Melbourne’s largest parks and have “severe ecological, cultural and heritage impacts Royal Park and Moonee Ponds Creek.”. The East West Link is a tunnel that joins two major freeways across the north of the city, however unlike the BIG DIG in Boston and the Madrid Rio, the East-West Link will widen existing surface roads to allow for above ground access ramps into the tunnel.

The skies and landscapes in the series “Pop!” are painted with clouds of colored smoke, which are released from canisters, levitated into the physical space from which they are photographed. Iowa State Landscape architecture seniors gain on-site experience

This summer, five students and their professor constructed a series of multipurpose outdoor classrooms in the center of Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW) new 30-acre campus. The classrooms will provide offenders, counselors and staff with a restorative outdoor environment for classes, counseling and vocational training. The project is part of a $68 million expansion and modernization, which includes a landscape master plan designed by Iowa State students. The new facility will open this fall.
